timeline

It's been an incredible journey from our roots in Istanbul to making a mark worldwide, and we're excited for what the future holds.

1912

Mr. Aron Sigala and his brother see an opportunity to trade paper. They create 'The Sigala Brothers', and begin marketing products from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Despite brewing conflicts in Europe, the company grows to become one of the leading agency businesses in Turkey.

1948

The second World War ravages Europe and its economies. Times are hard, but Mr. Sigala guides the company through the war years, and is joined by his son, David. Together they rebuild and grow. Both the business and the family emerge from the two wars with a culture of resilience, determination and optimism that they seek to perpetuate in each generation of company leadership.

1950

Mr. Gideon Kornfilt joins the company and they become again the leading agency in Turkey for paper and board. As the Turkish industry grows, and paper mills start operating, the company begins to trade pulp, and becomes the leading supplier to domestic manufacturers.

1971

Mr. Mario Kornfilt joins the company in Istanbul, the third generation of the family to do so. The company continues to grow, and defends its position as the leading paper and pulp agency in Turkey.

1986

The company expands internationally, opening its first office outside Turkey, in Geneva, Switzerland; and changes its name to 'Korab International'.

1990

A third office is started in Gothenburg, Sweden, under the name 'Korab International AB'. Gothenburg is a leading city in the paper trade, and host to many large trading houses, so Korab chooses to establish its headquarters there in preparation for ongoing international expansion.

1996

Korab expands into the United States with the opening of an office in Vancouver, Washington. The US office becomes an important cornerstone, opening the door to North American suppliers and domestic sales.

2010

Seeing the global market grow, led by China's rapid economic expansion, Korab enters China with an office in Beijing. The new team is successful in establishing a strong business in this exciting, but challenging market.

2012

Korab celebrates its one-hundredth year in the pulp and paper trade. A remarkable accomplishment. KorCo AB is established in Sweden, and within one year becomes the leading discount paper and board trader in Europe.

2022

Korab and KorCo move to new offices in Gothenburg. Located next to the port, the new office provides space for continued expansion.
